| Personal History | Amanda was born on the USS Saratoga, the first child to parents Jack and Janet. Two years later, Amanda’s little brother Jack jr. was born. Growing up on a Starship, she developed a close connection to the ship. It wasn’t any surprise to her parents when Amanda decided to join Starfleet when she was 18. It was, however, a surprise when the sqeamish at the sight of blood Amanda wanted to go to medical school after basic training. Due to a pilot being conducted at the academy, students going to medical at the academy only had to complete 2 years of basic training instead of the regular 4. At the time, Starfleet had a shortage of doctors and nurses. This was a way to ramp up the numbers. Amanda was part of the first pilot. After two years of basic training, she enrolled at Starfleet medical. Four years of medical school, a year of comparative xenobiology and command school (concurrently) and she was done. Ready to step into the world. Graduating as a lieutenant JG, which is the standard for doctors, she was immediately posted as an Assistant Chief Medical Officer on the USS Betty James, under the guidance of Lieutenant Commander Shran, an Andorian who was a distant relative of the commander Shran Amanda learned about in early Starfleet history. Shran was a walking, talking medical encyclopedia and he knew it. He would remind Amanda of that every chance he got. But he was also an accomplished doctor, a terrific surgeon and patient teacher. Shran being a field docent for Starfleet medical, during the next four years Amanda was being trained in trauma surgery, internal medicine and cardio-thoracic surgery. During her time as the ACMO of the Betty James, Amanda worked closely with the only civilian on board. A huge 2m40 Klingon named Katagh. She had met other Klingons before but something about Katagh was different. He was kind, caring, funny and very attractive. It didn’t take long for Amanda to fall head over heels for him. Towering over her by a difference of 68 centimeters, he always called tiny while her nickname for him was skyscraper. Before long, they developed a deep connection. Their relationship was born. During an attack on the USS Saratoga, the ship was destroyed with all hands on board. The loss of her brother hit Amanda hard. But it was harder for Judith who lost both her parents in one go. She was on Earth at the time, visiting her grandparents. In their will, Jack jr. and his wive appointed Amanda as the child’s guardian, a responsibility she gladly took on. When 3 years later Amanda was transferred to the USS Arcadia, Katagh decided to come with her. The Arcadia needed skilled doctors, and Katagh needed to be with Amanda. Working closely together, raising a little girl together, made them even closer than they already were. On occasion there had been talks of children of their own, but both of them knew that it wasn’t the time for that. Children meant maternity leave, but everyone was needed at their post. Early 2438, a couple of months after their arrival at the USS Arcadia and switch over to Starbase Obsidian Judith was send to Earth to spend time with her grandparents. During that visit, the Romulans attacked Earth and her grandparents were killed, along with millions of others. Judith was only lightly injured and send to Starbase 852. Amanda and Katagh left Obsidian to meet up with her and bring her back. During that journey the Federation all but destroyed, and there was no way for them to safely return to Obsidian at the time. There hadn’t been a choice other than stay on 852 for nearly 8 months until a safe return plan had been made by Starfleet. Amanda, Katagh and Judith are now safely back on Obsidian, where Amanda is appointed to the position of Chief of Surgery, with Katagh as one of her staff surgeons. |
