Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Smart, innovative but not always by the book. Rhyth will get the job done but would sooner people didn't ask how. She's very energetic, very much a tech nerd and to some extent borderline reckless. She tries to embody the Starfleet engineer reputation and methodology even if she has her own rule book that she works out of. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Rhyth is a born problem solver but her approach of "solve the problem" is a laser like focus, she is a purist in that respect and is likely to disregard various procedures if it comes to it, to the point where reminders have been necessary in the past. | |
| Ambitions | To rewrite the Starfleet engineering book. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | When not on duty Rhyth enjoys making model ships and painting them. She also enjoys playing the ocarina. |
| Personal History | Born on one of the Federation's Gamma Quadrant colonies Rhyth learned very quickly how to make do with what was available, especially after she was introduced to the work environment - in her case farming. She proved herself a reasonably competent engineer in terms of repairing farm equipment and such, however she wanted more and so came the rift in the family, she wanted to explore she wanted to see more, her parents didn't like it, the colony didn't like it and her three older brothers? Well the less said there the better. In the face of such opposition Rhyth almost let go of her dream but then one day she came across an old Kestrel type Federation fighter, it was presumably a casualty of the Dominion War, shot down over the colony. She began working on it, initially as a displacement activity, but then she got the computer working and used its communications systems to submit her Starfleet application, she wasn't expecting much given that she'd not been afforded the time to study for any exams but she got in. That led to perhaps the biggest decision of her life, she wanted to go, she knew she wouldn't be allowed to and she feared what would happen if she said anything. She kept working on the fighter, making it flight worthy and when it was she made her escape taking what she had and leaving behind a note. She flew the fighter away in the dead of night and didn't stop until she got to Earth. After that the Academy itself was relatively straightforward for Rhyth, she learned a lot more than she expected to, becoming a fan of starship design and the great engineers of Starfleet's history, she also displayed an aptitude with the transporter which became her focus in her third year. She did however finish the Academy with a few marks on her record for 'unsanctioned engineering experiments' which she maintains were proven successful. Her record and reputation got her an intriguing posting aboard Ghost Station, she was primarily the transporter chief. Her engineering habits did however rear their head as she became known as the 'chief engineer of the Amaterasu' the ship that became infamous as part of the Zaj incident as it carried an Omega Particle powered weapon, a weapon Rhyth helped construct in violation of Starfleet Protocols - as a result she like the others involved lost her commission, she then hung around with those others aboard the Yi Sun-Sin, where she was effectively chief engineer, before being reinstated into Starfleet in 2438. |
